Happy New Year!

We started the week with lots of yawns and tired faces.  After catching up and sharing the highlights of our vacations we settled back into the classroom routine.

The new year brings many new skills and units to Room 49.

ELA -We are wrapping up our figurative language unit and are preparing to write narratives using literacy skills.

This week we began our nonfiction unit by studying text features.  Next week we will learn about text structure, which will prepare us to learn about Mount Everest!

MATH - This week students practiced a new problem solving strategy: interpreting remainders.  Next week they will take the division assessment and we will begin learning about fractions.

SOCIAL STUDIES - The students took home their Southeast study guide on Thursday.  The test will be next Thursday, January 14th.  Please help your child study and review the information sent home.

SCIENCE - Mrs. Demartini is teaching the class about the parts of an atom.  They created an atom to represent an element on the periodic table of elements!

NOTES: The winter temperatures have finally arrived.  Please remember to send your child to school with a coat and warm clothes for outdoor recess.
